Most people recognize the light bulb as just that: a round, bulbous light source. Even though the incandescent bulb is on it's way out, CFLs and even many LEDs have still come in the traditional circular shapes we're familiar with.
As you'll see in the video below, one LED company has discovered that round might not be the most efficient or illuminating shape for the LEDs of the future.
Illumitex, a startup out of Austin, Texas, has devised a square LED bulb that it claims will both cut the cost and improve the quantity and quality of light coming from solid state lamps and ceiling fixtures (via GreenTechMedia).
