You might think that urban bike-sharing programs are brand-new idea that's just now beginning to catch on in America. But as is so often the case when it comes to sustainable innovation, the U.S. is actually the one playing catch up.
Montreal, Mexico City, London and Paris all have fairly impressive bike sharing programs with between 1,000 and 10,000 bicycles in circulation. But those pale in comparison to the 50,000+ bicycle system that Hangzhou, China has been building over the past few years.
