Remember when Nalgene water bottles were all the rage? Then we learned about BPA and all the nasty stuff that plastic was leaking into our water. Since then the search for the perfect water bottled has continued. But a new design from the Bamboo Bottle Company is putting a new sleek face on guilt-free hydration.
Some astounding facts about bamboo:
- Bamboo releases 35% more oxygen than equivalent strands of trees. And it can sequester up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide from the air per hectare.
- Harvesting bamboo does not destroy its root system, meaning there is no topsoil erosion or run-off.
- Thanks to a unique rhizome-dependent system, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, and some species have been recorded as growing up to 100 cm (39 in) within a 24 hour period.
All of this adds up to mean that using bamboo as a manufacturing material is not only good business sense, it's also good for the planet. That's what makes the Bamboo Bottle so unique!
The bottle is made in three easy-to-clean parts: a dishwasher-safe core made of glass, a tough-as-nails bamboo shell, and two completely BPA-free food grad plastic components (the lid and the seal). The glass guarantees safe, clean drinking at all temperatures, whether you're chugging ice-cold water or sipping on steaming-hot tea.
To clean the bottle, simply unscrew the easy-to-tote cap and top ring to remove the glass interior and pop it in the dishwasher.
For those who usually carry around their own glass jars full of water, it may seem like this $25 Bamboo Bottle is just an unnecessary expense. But unlike the glass jar, it won't shatter into a million dangerous little pieces the first time you leave it on the roof of your car, or trip over your untied shoelace while walking into yoga class.
