When is the last time you heard about the BP oil spill in the media?
It has been over a year since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded 41 miles off the coast of Louisiana, releasing 170 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Even though the oil spill is over, the aftermath continues to damage the Gulf community.
Creator and Executive Producer Brandon Sutton is determined to show the world a new perspective from the Gulf coast in his documentary film Kids of the Gulf. In the film, 7-year old Devon and 13-year-old Devin travel to the Gulf Coast to share stories of kids affected by the BP oil spill and what actions they are taking to adapt and recover. By sharing kid's stories through Kids of the Gulf, Brandon's hopes to inspire other kids to stand up and make a difference in their communities.
Kids of the Gulf is being developed with the support of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, an organization founded by the “Vampire Diaries” actor.
